Although the Kite Beach is all about water sports and active lifestyle, there’s also a vibrant art community in Cabarete and Sosua. From local and international jewelry and souvenir makers, graffiti and street artists, tattoo artists, to painters, sculptors, musicians and video artists.
One that caught out attention was a local artist, Leo Diaz, who created a series of kite-themed paintings, after visiting us here at the Kite Beach. “Thank you GoKite Cabarete for making this a great experience and a great inspiration,” says Leo, “I’ve been coming here for years and still can’t get used to the beauty of this place — and the happy faces I see every time I come here just reinforce the fact that it’s not just me who’s taken by this beautiful sight.”
Leo started painting at the age of fifteen, self-taught during his early years and was later formally and academically trained at the Bellas Artes art school in Puerto Plata, his hometown, as well as in Santiago. He currently lives and works in Sosúa, where he is an art professor at Casa de Arte de Sosúa. To find out more about his work, visit Leo’s site: http://leodiazart.com.
